A Little Bit of History, My Friends
Garlic bread, as we know it, is said to have originated in Italy. The idea of toasting bread with garlic and olive oil is ancient, but the modern version became popular in America after World War II. I have taken this concept and infused it with Indian flavours.
Let’s Get Cooking!
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients – The Magic Makers!
- 6 Bread slices (Regular white or brown bread)
- 4 tablespoons Butter, softened (Makhan)
- 4-5 cloves Garlic, minced (Lahsun)
- 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped (Hara Dhaniya)
- 1/2 teaspoon Red chili flakes (Lal Mirch) – Adjust to your spice preference!
- 1/4 teaspoon Dried oregano (Optional)
- Salt to taste (Namak)
- 1/4 cup Grated Cheese (Cheddar or Mozzarella) – Optional, but highly recommended!
Step-by-Step Instructions – Easy Peasy!
- Garlic Butter Magic: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped coriander, red chili flakes, oregano (if using), and salt. Mix it all together until you have a fragrant, flavorful paste. The aroma alone is enough to make your mouth water!
-
Spread the Love: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture on one side of each bread slice. Make sure every inch is covered with that deliciousness!
-
Roll it Up: Now, carefully roll each bread slice tightly, starting from one end. Secure the roll with a toothpick if needed.
-
Toast it Up: Heat a pan or griddle over medium heat. Place the bread rolls on the hot pan and cook, turning frequently, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
-
Cheese Please (Optional): If you are using cheese, sprinkle the grated cheese over the toasted rolls in the last minute of cooking. Cover the pan and let the cheese melt beautifully.
-
Serve and Enjoy: Remove the toothpicks (if used) and serve the Garlic Bread Toast Rolls hot. Watch them disappear in seconds!
Chef’s Tips for the Best Results!
- Use softened butter for easy mixing.
- Don’t burn the garlic! Keep the heat medium to avoid a bitter taste.
- Adjust the amount of red chili flakes to your spice level.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garam masala to the garlic butter.
- Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
Different Ways to Cook – Versatility is Key!
- Gas Stove: Follow the pan-frying method as described above.
- Induction Stove: Similar to the gas stove, use medium heat for even cooking.
- Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the bread rolls on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the bread rolls in the air fryer basket and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Microwave: Not recommended as it will make the bread soggy.
